Beschreibung

Introduction In everyday-life we often use the concept of "self-esteem" in order to qualify the implicit or explicit attitudes of a person towards herself. One might suffer from "low self-esteem" when preparing for an important occasion or from the unbearably "high self esteem" of a colleague. We also tend to assume a correlation between our thinking good or bad about ourselves and the effect this has on our actions. I.e. we speak of someone failing for the reason of not "believing enough in herself", we recommend friends to show self-confidence at a meeting and want to "boost" the self-esteem of a student. But what is it exactly we refer to when speaking of self-esteem?
