This book assembles highlights of the International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning and of my own writings that I believe can contribute to an understanding of concepts and themes central to the field of CSCL. The Investigations of the present volume do not intend to lay out a detailed roadway for educational transformation or a logical edifice of theory. Rather, they hope to question outmoded assumptions and stimulate creative exploration in CSCL theory, methodology and practice—providing examples of a different kind of theory. The ijCSCL papers and my own research reports are firmly grounded in analysis of empirical interaction data.
